about

The song dates me as someone who spent a lot of time making mixed tapes, and I always loved receiving them as well. They were a labor of love. TJ Lundy's distorted fiddle and the interplay between Dan Long on keys, Dave Duncan on electric guitar and the stellar rhythm section of Sam Nobles and Ritchie Rubini make this song what it is.

lyrics

I found that old mixed tape
That you made
When I digging up junk in piles
I listened to those tunes over and
over
I drove that reel a million miles

I threw it in my old tape deck
sat real close, to hear through
The fuzz, and it carried me back to
All those memories of what once was

And all those love songs I wish I’d
Written, but someone always got ‘em
down first. Blame it all on my
shaky hand it’s both a blessing and a
curse

Still I got this old mixed tape
That you made. That I just can’t throw
Away. It’s lost some sound and I mixed up all my cases. But it
carries me back to those days
And it carries me back to those
places that I’ve lost in time
But I still hear traces.

If I was the worst mistake
That you made
Well you didn’t know it then.
But it’s in the lines
You wrote inside, the tears that
Smeared the ink from your pen

I found that old mixed tape
That you made
When I was digging up junk in piles
I listened to those tunes over and
Over.
I drove that reel a million miles.
