about

If you couldn't tell before, I've listened to a lot of Neil Young. This is an old tune, written in my twenties when I was trying to figure out how I wanted to make my living.

lyrics

I’m no breadwinner
See my wallet gettin’ thinner
By the hour
So I stopped on my walk, thought I’d pick you some flowers.
Now I’m calling you from jail, see if you know who can help pay my bail.

I never worried about the money before. Never thought that I would sell my soul just like a whore. Now I’m willing to go door to door to keep you happy.

Seems to me I’m still a child, yeah, I’m just a babe who’s been called to the wild. Don’t try to save me. Don’t call me, don’t page me. I don’t want to trade the monkey bars for a monkey suit full or Cuban cigars. You call that growin’ up, I could be throwin’ up all of the smoke that gets caught in my throat, I want to build a moat around you and me and pull up the drawbridge and swallow the key
I never worried about the money before. Never thought that I would sell my soul just like a whore. Now I’m willing to go door to door to keep you happy.

So now my alarm is set, my suit is pressed, and the dreams I once had, I seem to forget, why don’t you tell me Dad, what are you gonna be when you grow up? It’s time for our first cup of coffee, cause we’re all adults, it’s the world’s biggest cult, but no one can stop me. I want to have a house. I want to have some land where I can roam on the weekends. Yesh, I can swim in the deep end.

I never worried about the money before. Never thought that I would sell my soul just like a whore. But now I’m willing to go door to door, to keep you happy. I hope you’re happy.
