about

This is a song inspired by my father. He claims to have no musical talent or abilities, but he certainly has an ear for good music, and I absorbed a lot of it in my formative years. I credit both of my parents with that. My mother was more of the singer. My father controlled the radio on long trips, and I distinctly remember him playing a Motown Greatest Hits tape. Those songs were magical to me, and I remember that after some of those bigs hits ended, he would say, "they don't make music like that anymore".

lyrics

When I climbed into the car
Knowing we’d go far
I was in the backseat
And my Dad, he played the tunes
That shot me right up through the moon
Made me feel my heartbeat

And the longer we would go
He played those sweet songs, soft and
Low, And said they don’t make music
like that anymore.
You know they don’t make music like
that anymore.

And the music was a heatwave
And It always made me feel brave
On the inside. And I was singing to
Myself and I had all the great ones
Help And I was lovin’ that ride
And As we rolled on down the road
Heart so full it could explode
He said they they don’t make music
like that anymore
You know they don’t make music like that anymore

He played the songs of Motor City
And they were singing oh so pretty
Deep down from their souls
They were the sounds that made my
Heart pound made me feel the ups
And downs, how they could rock and
How They could roll

Started moving my feet
Never felt so complete
And he said they don’t make music like
that anymore.
You know “they don’t make
music like that anymore”

And he did not sing out loud
I guess he was a bit too proud
Said he couldn’t hold a tune
But he handed me the songs that
made me want to sing along
Like I could walk on the moon
It seems just like yesterday
My father gave this gift away
When he said they don’t make music like that anymore.
You know they don’t make music like that anymore
Oh No, they don’t make music like that anymore
